The whole process of leaving Meetup
This week, I received an email from Meetup saying they were going to raise the cost of our subscription from $210/yr to $358/yr. If my math serves me correctly, that's a 70% jump. Though they boast awesome new AI and other features are coming, it's just not worth it. Their product provided enough value for 10 years but not $358/yr value. Since I pay for this, I decided it was time to say goodbye to Meetup.
I tried to export the member list but then discovered Meetup will only allow the export of trivial data. I can't export the email addresses. So, it looks like Agile Baltimore is going from 667 Meetup members to whoever joins via this website going forward. Maybe I'll add some kind of ticker, showing the size of the community.
In the end, I'm just trying to support the community and encourage dialog. We have a Discord server now. We have a LinkedIn group but it really hasn't been used in years. I'm thinking through how I can send out an invite to the new group of people who are registering here and allow them to RSVP for an online event, without it being too kludgy.
Stay tuned for more.
